Photos are not only for printing and storing on digital albums. Social networking has made it a necessity to share photos the moment you take them. As such, Sony is rumored to have a 3G-enabled camera in the works.
And whats even better news is that Sonys rumored 3G Cyber-shot is said to support free 3G connections. This means you can take a photo, and it will automatically be uploaded to your online album of choice (we suppose this could be Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, and the like) free of charge. The supported 3G service will be free to a certain extent, and heavier users will have to pay for extra bandwidth.
This move is said to help digital cameras compete with smartphones, which have instant-sharing features with their built-in cameras. Still, any photography enthusiast will tell you that full-fledged digital cameraseven point and shoot cameraswill take better pictures than a smartphone with a small lens and inferior sensor. Good idea, Sony!
Will 3G-enabled cameras eat into the smartphone market? Maybe not. But at least you have an easy way of emailing your latest pics to grandma anywhere you are.
